The Sensory Room

Under the Sea

We were very lucky to receive funding to create our beautiful Under the Sea Sensory Room — a calm, welcoming space designed especially for children with additional needs, sensory needs or anxiety.

​Every child experiences the world differently, so we wanted to create a space where children can feel safe, calm and relaxed in a way that works for them. There is no pressure to play or interact in a particular way. Children can explore, move, swing, rest or simply enjoy having some quiet time.

What's inside?

Our main sensory space includes a calm corner, sensory toys and equipment, and space for children who regulate through movement to enjoy our movement equipment.

​We also have a separate dark sensory room, filled with gentle lights and light-up sensory resources for children to explore in a quieter, low-stimulation environment.

​The room isn't only about the children. We know that being a parent or carer of a child with additional needs can sometimes feel isolating. We wanted this to be somewhere mums, dads and carers can feel comfortable too — a place to sit, talk, share experiences or simply spend time with people who understand. and enjoy a cup of tea.

We have information from other local organisations that we can sign post to.  We have an library for children and adults can borrow informative books.
